Rules

Rules and regulations for the eight races

(If there are differences between the Danish and English rules the Danish are applicable)

The Danish Rowing Federations regatta rules with time trial and U-turn are applicable with the following ammendments and adjustments:

1. The regatta course
The course is marked 6.5 km long route in the southern part of Copenhagen Harbour with one U-turn around buoys at the Lock. The start and finish is marked at the Nykredit building South of Langebro Bridge. Before the start all boats take place in the area between Langebro Bridge and Knippelsbro Bridge where the boats will be called forward by the pre-starter. From the start at the Nykredit building the boats row under Bryggebroen Bridge towards the lock in the southern part of Copenhagen Harbour along the western side of the harbour. Shortly before the lock the boats makes a U-turn around the buoys and row along the eastern part of the harbour towards the finish line at the Nykredit building.
2. The start
The start is done as sequential flying start. Boats are called individually by the pre-starter to prepare for start. From the pre-start area to the start line there is approx. 150 meters, in which the crew are expected to reach full speed before crossing the start line. Shortly before crossing the start line an umpire calls "ATTENTION..." and at the moment the crew crosses the start line, teh umpire calls "GO!" and the time starts running for the crew. There is 30-45 seconds between each crew start.
3. No-overtake Buoy
A "No-overtaking" buoy has been placed approx. 75 meters before the halfway U-turn. If two boats aproaches the U-turn side by side, the boat that passes the "No-overtaking" buoy first, gains the advantage to make the U-turn first. The other boat must fall back or pull to the side, to give way to the leading boat. An unpire is situated close to the spot and will call the trailing boat to give way, in hard-to-decide situations. It is not allowed to overtake between the "No-overtaking" buoy and the last buoy at the turn around. If the rules are not followed it could result in time penalties at the umpires decision.
4. Times
Time calculation is settled as time trial with floating start.
5. Handicap calculation for eights
For the handicap calculation the otterlige rules will be used:

7. Weighing
Control weighings of coxes before and after the race can take place.
8. Registration
The ordinary registration must take place at least ten days before the regatta. Late sign-up of teams has to be applied at 18:00, two days before the regatta.
9. Launching of boats
Eights must be launched from Copenhagen Rowing Club as the boats has to be checked by umpires before the race. If the boats are launched from other clubs (e.g. Bryggens Roklub or ARK) the team will not be allowed to participate in the race.
